THANE/ MUMBAI, 12 FEBRUARY 2017: The fifth edition of the Hiranandani Thane Half Marathon (HTHM) was flagged off early on February 12, 2017 from Hiranandani Estate, Thane. Dr Niranjan Hiranandani, CMD, Hiranandani Communities, along with the reigning Femina Miss India Winner Ms Priyadarshini Chatterjee flagged off the event. The theme this year for ‘The Walk’ presents ‘Hiranandani Thane Half Marathon 2017’ was ‘Running for Expression’.
Hiranandani Thane Half Marathon 2017 was conceived to be an initiative to awaken residents of Thane and Mumbai to the importance of maintaining their health and lifestyle. “With busy schedules, work pressure and hectic lifestyles, we see that citizens tend to neglect their health. ‘The Walk’ presents ‘Hiranandani Thane Half Marathon 2017’, was planned to be a health wake-up call for residents, we got 12,000-plus citizens to put on their running shoes,” said Dr Niranjan Hiranandani.
Espousing the concept of ‘Running for a Cause’, the fifth edition of the Hiranandani Thane Half Marathon, which had been recognized by the Athletics Federation of India, had four categories. First, the Half Marathon, which had runners going for 21.097km. The second was the ‘Green Run’, which was 10 kms. Then, the ‘Fun Run’, which was 4 kms. The fourth category was the Half Marathon Pacers.
The highlight of this year’s HTHM was participation by a record holder in reverse or retro running, Deepuk Gopal Kanal, who holds the record for reverse retro running over 10 kms, with the Indian flag, the previous record set by him being at Adidas Uprising in 2016. He also holds the record for sideways running with Indian flag in 21 kms. By participating in this run, he expressed support for the ‘Swatch Bharat Abhiyaan’, as also support for pet animals.
Registration fee collected from participants is donated to a charitable institution doing social work. The amount collected through registrations during the last four marathons has been donated to charitable institutions like Ruhi (associated with Tata Memorial Hospital), Jaipur Foot, Mumbai Mobile Creches, Concern India, Oxfam, Buniyaad and Agasthi Foundation. This year the Charity partners were Akshay Patra and Rotary Club of Thane North End.
“No longer is the individual uni-dimensional. Running is the expression of forbearance and a reflection of one’s conquering spirit,” said Dr Niranjan Hiranandani. “The HTHM, an annual event, allows participants to explore their multi-dimensional personalities, helping create better individuals that in turn create better communities,” concluded Dr Niranjan Hiranandani.

Priyadarshini Academy Chairman Mr. Niranjan Hiranandani, speaking at the Priyadarshni Academy’s Global Awards for the year 2016 said recipients of the 2016 awards, in various fields, included personalities from Israel, Switzerland and the UK. “The awards are given to personalities and organizations for outstanding contribution in their respective fields,” he said.

Noted scientist and Chairman of ISRO, A S Kiran Kumar, received the award for ISRO’s ‘outstanding contribution to development of space science and technology’, Bollywood actor Ms Katrina Kaif was presented the ‘Smita Patil Memorial Award for Best Actor’ while another Bollywood actor Ms Juhi Chawla was honored for her outstanding role in promoting social causes.
The award to Ms Juhi Chawla was for her activities against mobile tower radiation, which culminated in her having filed a petition in the Bombay High Court. The 2016 awards were presented at a glittering function in Mumbai, in presence of Union Ministers Shri Nitin Gadkari, Shri Suresh Prabhu, Shri Piyush Goyal as also real estate tycoon and Chairman of Priyadarshini Academy Mr Niranjan Hiranandani and Chairman-Emeritus of the Academy, Mr Nanik Rupani.
The ‘Ramakrishna Bajaj Memorial Global Award’ was presented to Mr Anshu Gupta, Founder Director of Goonj, a Delhi-based NGO, for his outstanding contribution in promoting the dignity of poor, while Mr Venki Ramakrishnan, an India-born Nobel Prize winning scientist, was presented the ‘Priyadarshini Academy Global Award’.
“Priyadarshini Academy has been awarding the ‘Smita Patil Memorial Award’ ever since it was established, and this year, the jury unanimously nominated Ms Katrina Kaif for the Smita Patil Memorial Award, for her work in films,” said Mr. Niranjan Hiranandani. “This award goes to Ms Katrina Kaif as a recognition to an outstanding individual who has shown excellence in her field,” he added.

MUMBAI, JANUARY 05 JANUARY, 2015: Billed as the first healthy-lifestyles event in the New Year, the Hiranandani Powai Run was a successful event on a Sunday when a segment of Mumbai’s residents did their bit for a healthy lifestyle. The event, which has become qi major fixture in Mumbai’s sports calendar, got off to a smooth start early morning of 03 January 2016. The fourth such edition of the event, it offered participants three options: (1) the Half Marathon for Serious Runners; (2) the 10 km run for the Health-Conscious who wanted to challenge themselves, and (3) a 4 km section dedicated to the walk and run for fun and charity. Effectively, between the three segments, it offered something for almost everyone who was health conscious and wanted to pound the streets surrounding Hiranandani Gardens, Powai and its peripheral areas. The minimum age to participate in the Half Marathon was 18 years, while it was 12 years for the other two categories.

The ‘Hiranandani Marathon 2015’ was a healthy and ideal way to start the new year,” said Niranjan Hiranandani, MD, Hiranandani Constructions Pvt Ltd (HCPL). Social Responsibility was also on the agenda, with several non-profit organizations being part of the event.
Niranjan Hiranandani flagged off the ‘Hiranandani Powai Run’, as also ran the 5 kms long ‘Laker's Trail’, which was among the three options for participants. “The main event was the ‘Half Marathon’ 21 km run, which passed through JVLR and the Powai flyover, the second option was the ‘Hiranandani Hop’ 10 km run, while the “Lakers’ Trail” at 4 km was the third option,” said Niranjan Hiranandani. “This is the first time that the Hiranandani Marathon includes sections to be run which are outside the Hiranandani Gardens complex; we also welcome the participation of a large number of Mumbaikars from all over, which made ‘Hiranandani Powai Run’ a typical ‘Mumbai’ event, and not just restricted to residents of Powai and the neighboring areas,” he added. This was the fourth such event; the three earlier editions were based within the Hiranandani Gardens.
With the MD participating in the ‘Hiranandani Powai Run’, it underscored the message of being fit that the Hiranandani Constructions Pvt Ltd is following as its ‘corporate mantra’. “As the MD of my company, keeping fit so as to be able to deliver the best is what I owe to my company’s stakeholders, said Niranjan Hiranandani. “I hope that seeing the MD participate in the ‘Hiranandani Powai Run’ will enhance the aspect of being health conscious within the company as also among stake holders,” he added.
